The Grass fed Hype is addressed in this conversation. Most grass fed beef is not as great as promised. We make jerky from grain/pellet raised Angus beef. In Las Vegas where many high end steakhouses are located, we purchase our beef from the same brokers. ALL ANGUS GRAIN FED CATTLE. Grass fed beef is gamey and has yellow fat in the marbling. People would be sending their dinner back to the chefs if this was ever served. Casinos would be appalled. Vegas provides expensive and quality dining establishes. So does Avalon Meat Candy. Angus Beef grain fed for the Win.

We split a quarter cow from a local farm thinking we were about to level up our freezer game with all grass-fed beef… and now I’m sitting here realizing there’s definitely a reason so much beef gets grain-finished.

It’s not that the meat is tough or low quality either. The flavor is just way too strong for me. It has this earthy, almost gamey taste that lingers after every bite, and no matter how I cook it, I can’t get past it. I wanted to love it because on paper it sounds like the better, cleaner option — but the taste is honestly ruining it for me.

This whole thing made me understand why a lot of ā€œgrass-fedā€ beef still gets finished on grain. That little bit of balance clearly matters, because this full-time grass-fed flavor is hitting way harder than I expected, and not in a way I’m enjoying at all.

What people say

Avalon Meat Candy, located on Spencer Street in Las Vegas, is a local business that has taken the world of jerky to a whole new level. With their distinct twist on texture and flavor, they have transformed meat into a delectable treat that is truly irresistible.

The story behind Avalon Meat Candy is as fascinating as the jerky itself. Founded by Christian Petersen in April 2016, this gourmet jerky company is the result of his unwavering passion for beef jerky. His love for this snack led him on a quest to find the best beef jerky, which eventually brought him to Huntington Beach, California. However, he was always disappointed when the store there would run out of stock. Determined not to rely on others for his favorite treat, Petersen decided to learn how to make his own - and now he believes he has created the best beef jerky around.

Petersen's journey to creating Avalon Meat Candy began after his time in the Coast Guard when he started Avalon Electric, a successful business providing services in Las Vegas and parts of California. It was during his visits with clients and potential business partners that he would bring along his signature jerky as a gift or token of appreciation. Soon enough, people were more interested in his delicious jerky than his electrical services. What started as a hobby and gift for friends quickly turned into a thriving business venture.

The secret behind Avalon Meat Candy's mouthwatering jerky lies in their commitment to using only the best meats available. They go through an impressive 400 pounds of meat each week, ensuring that every bite is packed with flavor and quality. Petersen insists on using top sirloins for their jerky and carefully selects all other ingredients to create a truly exceptional product.

Located conveniently on Spencer Street in Las Vegas, Avalon Meat Candy is a must-visit destination for all jerky enthusiasts. Whether you're a local or just passing through, their gourmet jerky is sure to leave a lasting impression. So, if you're looking for a unique and delicious snack that will satisfy your cravings, look no further than Avalon Meat Candy.
