FRANCE LIT UP THE EIFFEL TOWER TO HONOR A BATTLE THAT SAVED AMERICA 🇫🇷🇺🇸

The French Navy took over the Trocadéro last week-end with a free 45-minute son et lumière show projected across the Palais de Chaillot and the Eiffel Tower.

The battle being commemorated is the Battle of the Chesapeake, fought exactly 245 years ago today, when the French fleet defeated the British and secured the path to American independence.

U.S. Admiral Karl Thomas called that 1781 battle 'a decisive turning point in our nation's fight for independence.'

On September 11, 2011, ten years after the attacks, Paris held the largest commemoration of 9/11 outside the United States.

At Trocadero, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower, two towers rose 100 feet into the sky. They were replicas of the Twin Towers. On one tower, workers inscribed the names of all 2,977 people who perished on September 11, 2001. Every name. Every victim.

On the second tower, thousands of handwritten messages from French citizens covered the entire surface. Messages of sympathy. Messages of solidarity. Messages saying: we remember. We will never forget.

A massive American flag hung between the towers. Above it, a message in French and English: "Les Français N'oublieront Jamais." "The French Will Never Forget."

Patrick du Tertre's group created the memorial. Du Tertre said: "We wanted to tell the Americans the French will never forget 9/11 also. We want to be with you. We want to express our friendship and our condolence."

U.S. Ambassador Charles Rivkin attended. Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoë attended. They stood together. They remembered together.

In 2001, when the attacks happened, French citizens opened their homes to Americans stranded at the airport. They offered their beds. They offered compassion.

Ten years later, Paris built two towers out of memory. They wrote the names of the dead. They collected the messages of a nation saying: we are with you. We will never forget.

The French will never forget. ✈️ 💙

Last night, September 9, 2,977 drones rose over New York Harbor and formed the Twin Towers at full architectural scale.

The lights first gathered into a helix, swirling upward before assembling into the shape of the towers.

There were exactly 2,977 lights, one for every person killed in the September 11 attacks.

The installation, called “2,977 Lights Over New York Harbor,” was created for the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and shaped with input from victims’ families, survivors and first responders. Among those involved was retired FDNY firefighter Tim Brown, who lost close friends on 9/11. Three of the lights honored firefighters Chris Blackwell, Terry Hatton and Michael Lynch.

The towers eventually broke apart back into individual lights.

Twenty-five years after Sept. 11, 2001, we pause to remember the lives lost, honor the first responders and service members who answered the call, and recognize the resilience of a nation forever changed by that day.

The legacy of 9/11 lives not only in remembrance, but in the generations of Americans who chose service, sacrifice and commitment to something greater than themselves.

Today, we honor the fallen, those who responded in our nation’s darkest hours, and the families whose lives were forever changed.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.
