For the last few months, we’ve had a lot of conversations about content, marketing, and growing Rock N Potato. But we kept finding ourselves coming back to the same question:
How do we tell the story behind everything we’re building?
The food is only one part of it.
Behind every menu item, review, customer interaction, late night, early morning, win, mistake, and challenge are real people trying to figure things out one day at a time.
A few weeks ago, Kenny shared a series with us from Softies called “Building a Restaurant.”
It sparked a conversation that has now become this.
Not because it gave us the answers… but because it helped us put words to something we’d been talking about for months.
Our story was always here. We were just trying to figure out how to tell it.
So this is the start of something new. Not for us. We’ve been living it every day… but for the first time, we’re inviting our community into it.
Sharing the real journey behind Rock N Potato.
The conversations. The pressure. The setbacks. The wins. The people.
Welcome to Certified Underdog.
Episode 1: Figuring It Out.

This weekend, our owner Kenny made a stop at the legendary Sid’s Diner in El Reno, Oklahoma, home of the world famous Onion Burger. 🍔
For Kenny, this wasn’t just about grabbing a burger. It was about respecting the history, the roots, and the craft behind one of America’s most iconic smash burgers. The Oklahoma Onion Burger dates back to the Great Depression, when cooks started smashing thinly sliced onions directly into the beef to stretch product. What started as necessity became a true piece of burger history.
At our place, when we create a smash burger, we believe it’s important to understand where it came from first. Kenny always wants to experience the originals, learn the techniques, and appreciate the tradition before putting our own spin on it. That’s how we stay true to the roots while still creating something uniquely ours.
Sid’s delivered exactly what it’s known for simple ingredients, old school technique, and a good onion burger. Sometimes the best inspiration comes from the places that helped shape burger culture in the first place.
